Offbeat Guitars "Jax 4" 32" Scale Bass in Alien Green Dyed Finish on sandblasted Eastern White Pine featuring a Hades Roasted Maple Medium Scale Neck with Indian Rosewood Fingerboard, EMG TBPCS and TBPA Active Pickups and BTS Control, Hipshot Ultralite Tuners, Hipshot KickAss Bridge, DR Hi-Beam Strings, and Aged Hardware.
I find it interesting that medium scales aren't more popular than they are. As someone who played mostly 34" scale basses for 25 years and switched to predominately short scales for the last 15 years, I feel like it's kind of the "Goldilocks" of scale lengths. It doesn't feel like a huge change like going from a 34" scale to a 30" scale, but you play this one all night instead of a 9.5 lb. Jazz bass, and you'll have a lot more energy at the end of the gig to wrestle that SVT back into your vehicle. You might even have enough energy to help the drummer load their kit into their vehicle. (I am so kidding about that.)
The bass body is made from knotty and sandblasted Eastern White Pine with an Alien Green dyed finish. The pickups and electronics feature an EMG active TBPCS in the neck and their TBPA in the bridge. The ceramic and steel magnets in the neck pickup have a slight scoop to them with nice lows and highs, whereas the AlNiCo magnets in the bridge position tends to fatten up the mids, ideal for the weaker bridge position pickup. The EQ section features a volume, volume, BTS Control (separate bass and treble cut and boost). The knobs are black and the rest of the hardware is aged nickel.
The neck is Hades roasted maple neck with an Indian Rosewood fretboard and features carbon fiber stiffening rods. The nut width is a Jazz bass sized 1.5", and the finish is a satin oil/poly blend. The neck gets sanded to 600 grit, and the edges of the fingerboard have been slightly rolled. All of which makes it a real joy to play.
A set of DR Hi-Beam strings runs between a Hipshot KickAss bridge over a Tone Ninja nut to a set of Ultralite tuners.
The bass weighs in at a nice and light 7.1 lbs, but it balances perfectly on a strap thanks to the lightweight Hipshot tuners (and also because it's a medium scale, in case you missed that earlier).
The bass comes with a 20mm padded Gator 4G gig bag.
